The Identify tool allows users to obtain basic information for features in select layers on the map. Information may include the name of the feature as well as other information contained in the database for that layer.
To obtain information using the Identify tool:
Select the Identify tool from the toolbar.
Display the Layer List by clicking on the Layer List tab.
Specify the layer of interest by clicking on its radio button in the Identify column. Layers with the radio button grayed out have no associated information and are not accessible with this tool.
Click on a feature of interest in the map image.
A new browser window will appear containing information specific to the identified feature.
The Identify operation will return results based on a predefined distance around the click location. The operation may return more than one result or no results. Zooming in will help to more accurately pinpoint the feature to identify. This is particularly important when identifying point features.
