Welcome to the Appalachian Mountain Club's interactive mapping service. This site is an educational resource to help you understand important natural landscapes of the Appalachian region and the conservation challenges and opportunities that face them.

The list below shows maps currently available on the site. It includes maps that have been prepared by the AMC to illustrate a particular topic, as well as custom maps that allow you to select and view data layers of your choice from all layers available for that geographic region.

Northern Forest

• Roadless Areas — This map shows roadless areas of at least 2,000 hectares (about 5,000 acres) across northern New England identified by AMC researchers.    
• On-going and Emerging Conservation Projects (updated August 2003) — This map shows lands that have been publicly identified as being under discussion or negotion for conservation.          
• Recent Conservation Projects (updated August 2003) — This map shows major conservation projects that have been completed in the Northern Forest since 1998.      
• Northern Forest Custom Map — This map allows you to select data layers of interest from the data library.       
• Large Land Sales (updated August 2003) — This map shows the most notable large land sales that have taken place in the Northern Forest since 1998, as well as large tracts currently for sale.         
• Northern Forest Alliance Wildlands — This maps shows 10 large regions identified as conservation priorities by the NFA.           

• Central Appalachian Study Open Space Areas — This map shows 13 large areas of open space from central Massachusetts to northern Virginia identified by AMC researchers.       
• Highlands Region Critical Treasures — This map shows priority conservation areas within the Highlands Region of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.   

• Alpine Plant Communities of Franconia Ridge NH — This map shows natural plant communities of the alpine area of Franconia Ridge in New Hampshire as mapped by AMC researchers.      
• Alpine Plant Communities of Mount Katahdin — This map shows natural plant communities of the alpine area of Mount Katahdin in Maine as mapped by AMC researchers.   
• Alpine Plant Communites of the Presidential Range — This map shows natural plant alpine communities of the Presidential Range in New Hampshire's White Mountains as mapped by AMC researchers.
